Spark Plugs

Spark plugs are luckily one of your car’s components that do not wear out too quickly. It is advisable that on an older model vehicle that you should replace the spark plugs every 30 000km. However, this could go up to 100 000km intervals for platinum or iridium spark plugs in modern vehicles.
It is always advisable to follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for these service intervals. Your vehicles maintenance schedule should be reviewed, which will tell you when to replace your spark plugs on the make and model or your car.
Some of the signs that your Spark Plugs are failing are:
• The engine will sound rough and jittery
• The engine will have trouble starting
• The engine will misfire
• High fuel consumption
• Lack of Acceleration
Apart from the above, neglecting to address a spark plug problem causes failure to ignite the fuel/air mixture and could cause a halt in the running of the engine, resulting in incomplete combustion and damage to the catalytic converter of your car.
Nickel alloy, platinum and iridium metals reduce the wear cause by the high voltage sparks, which in turn help to extend the intervals between changing spark plus, and decreases the misfire rate.
