A clutch that is slipping increases the amount of friction between the clutch and flywheel, so the more you let your clutch slip, the worse the problem will become. This will ultimately end up in a clutch replacement.
When applying pressure to the clutch pedal suddenly, this creates extra wear on the friction disc, causing it to most like slip. Therefore depressing you clutch gently will ensure less wear against the other components.
Taking all of this into consideration, clutches will become worn and require replacement. The life span of a clutch is approximately 120000kms, however, this is dependent on the driving style of the person who is driving the car.
